YUCAIPA >> It’s never as simple as one statistic. But the girls basketball teams from Cajon and Yucaipa sure made it look that way.
A stunning night for the Thunderbirds from the 3-point line combined with a monumental struggle for the Cowgirls to produce Yucaipa’s fourth consecutive win over its visiting Citrus Belt League rival in a 57-40 victory Friday night.
Junior forward Tori Guzman paced a 9-for-17 performance from the 3-point line by scoring a game-high 21 points, all on 3s. On the other side, Cajon missed on all 24 of its 3-point attempts.

Junior center Julianne LeClair added 16 points and 20 rebounds on a night in which the Thunderbirds used the entire floor to take apart Cajon’s zone defenses.

Guzman led the Thunderbirds’ surge in the second quarter after trailing 10-9 following the opening period. She hit four 3-pointers in the quarter — three on passes from Holt — and Yucaipa opened a 30-18 halftime lead.
