Back in the 1940s and ’50s, the Viper Room in West Hollywood was known as the Melody Room, and gangsters like Bugsy Siegel and Mickey Cohen spent their evenings there as jazz played, drinks flowed and, reportedly, illicit gambling operated. A play aims to recapture those days with film noir-inspired tale.

Only this murder mystery has a cast of clowns.

In “Clown Bar” at the Viper Room Nov. 11 and 12, detective Happy Mahoney returns to his old watering hole to avenge his brother’s murder and you’re invited. Adam Szymkowicz created and Troy Heard produces and directs the immersive theater production.
