The Riverside County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman killed in a Corona crash Wednesday afternoon as 74-year-old Shamsi Karim.

Karim, of Corona, was a passenger in a vehicle that struck a light pole about 1:20 p.m. on Promenade Avenue near Fairbanks Street, police said.

Both Karim and the male driver were taken to Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center, where Karim died within an hour, according to the coroner’s site. The driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The Corona Police Department is investigating the crash and what caused the driver to run directly into the pole.
