Whicker: Cody Bellinger’s mini-slump typifies Dodgers’ frustration

HOUSTON — After he spent the spring and summer commanding every theater, has Cody Bellinger finally found a stage too big?

That’s difficult to say. But it is hard to argue that the ball hasn’t gotten too small.

As the Dodgers experienced a communal meltdown in their 5-3 loss to Houston, Bellinger did not hit a fair ball.

His problems were not as visible as those of Yu Darvish, whose pitches touched off an indoor fireworks display at Minute Mark. And they were not as dramatic as those of Yasiel Puig, who appeared to stroke a double down the left-field line when it would have mattered, and then took a roundhouse route around first base and got nailed at second base by Carlos Correa, one of the world’s natural wonders at shortstop.
