USC update: The Trojans were idle over Thanksgiving weekend for the first time since 2005. It was also their first bye week this fall. For the first time since 1995, USC did not have a bye week during the regular season, playing 12 games in a span of 12 weeks. … The Trojans saw the weekend off as a chance for banged-up players, including tight end Tyler Petite, left guard Chris Brown and defensive tackle Rasheem Green, who all have sprained shoulders, to recover. … USC had clinched the Pac-12 South two weeks ago, but did not know its opponent until late Saturday, after Washington State’s 41-14 loss to Washington left Stanford as the Pac-12 North winner. … The Trojans have remained at No. 11 in the College Football Playoff rankings for three straight weeks, largely out of the national title picture, but can win a conference championship for the first time since 2008.
