What Inland members of Congress are saying about the latest Trump/Comey news

Several Inland Democrats are calling for an independent investigation following reports that President Donald Trump asked then-FBI Director James Comey to end his agency’s investigation of one-time National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

“It @POTUS asked Comey to end FBI investigation into Flynn, that is potentially obstruction of justice,” Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-Redlands, wrote on Twitter. “We need an independent investigation and special prosecutor. Now.”

Rep. Raul Ruiz, D-La Quinta, wrote on Twitter that The New York Times report about Comey, which has been denied by the White House, “again underscores the need for an independent investigation. Not about party or politics, but the future of democracy.”

Also on Twitter, Rep. Norma Torres, D-Pomona, wrote: “Deeply disturbing @POTUS personally interfered in a federal investigation. This is why we need an independent commission to #FollowTheFacts.”

Rep. Ken Calvert, R-Corona, issued a statement via Twitter.

“As I’ve stated before, I believe in following the facts of the investigation, and there are several investigations looking into Russian meddling into the election,” Calvert said.
