Westbound 210 Freeway to shut down after shooting wounds 2 people
A man and his female passenger were taken to the hospital after someone shot at them as they traveled on the westbound lanes of the 210 Freeway in Fontana Thursday morning, California Highway Patrol officials said.
“The male driver sustained the more serious injuries but she was taken, possibly with minor injuries, and as a precaution,” said Officer Marcelo Llerena with the CHP.
Authorities are planning to shut down all westbound lanes of the freeway around 9 a.m. to search for evidence, including shell casings, officials said.
The shooting was reported around 6:45 a.m. on the westbound lanes east of the Cherry Avenue offramp, according to Llerena.
The driver pulled over near Cherry Avenue and was later taken to a hospital. However, Llerena said it’s unclear if the man was struck in the face by gunfire or by shards of glass. The passenger was also taken, although authorities say she was walking around outside of the vehicle and was talking.”
Video from the scene shows several bullet holes in the windshield and driver’s side window of the dark-colored Honda.
The shooter drove off in what is being described as a gray Honda Accord, officials said.
Authorities are not certain what sparked the shooting.
