Week 3 high school football preview capsules for the Inland area

Here is a closer look at some of the top Week 3 football games in the Inland area.

Games are at 7 p.m. unless indicated.

NARBONNE (2-1) at CENTENNIAL (2-1), 7:30 p.m.

Game info: These perennial powers have met once before and it was a classic: Centennial edged Narbonne, 41-34, in the 2012 CIF-State Open Division regional bowl championship. All signs point to the sequel being as entertaining. Centennial is ranked No. 3 in the state by, and quarterback Tanner McKee should be back under center after suffering an ankle injury Sept. 2. Centennial has used an aggressive style on defense, leading to 11 sacks in three games. Narbonne is No. 8 in the state, and the Gauchos have allowed 14 points per game. The defense is led by USC-bound linebacker Raymond Scott. The game will be televised live on Prime Ticket.


Game info: Here is the rematch of last year’s Division 2 championship game, where the Nighthawks fell behind and could not catch the Tritons at home in a 45-35 loss. This matchup is in Orange County and could again be a shootout, though both of these clubs were moved up to Division 1. San Clemente coach Jamie Ortiz has another standout signal-caller in junior Breandan Costello, who’s thrown for 639 yards and nine TDs on 40 of 68 passing this year. Junior Hank Bachmeier still run the Nighthawks’ offense and he threw four touchdown passes last week — two to Washington-committed receiver Marquis Spiker — as Murrieta Valley outlasted Cajon in a wild, 49-46 victory.
