Wanted man shot during encounter with bail agents in river bottom, Riverside police say
By Gail Wesson
A wanted man was shot Sunday night in the Santa Ana River bottom when two bail agents who had been staking him out tried to make contact with him, according to a Riverside police spokesman.
The man was taken to the hospital, said Officer Ryan Railsback, who did not have information about his condition.
The shooting remains under investigation, Railsback wrote in an email.
The incident was reported about 5:10 p.m. in the river bottom — which is often dry — in the area of Van Buren Boulevard, Railsback said.
The river divides Riverside to the south and Jurupa Valley to the north, so Riverside police officers and county sheriff’s deputies who patrol in Jurupa Valley responded. Authorities determined the shooting happened in Riverside territory, so city police will handle the investigation, Railsback said.
