A 30-year-old Victorville man has surrendered five days after allegedly hitting a deputy with a heavy object during a pursuit, causing a back injury, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s news release.

The deputy, who was not identified by name, was treated at a hospital and is recuperating at home.

The deputy made a traffic stop Nov. 23 near the intersection of Maverick Place and El Evado Road in Victorville and when he asked driver Darren Lamar Scott to get out of the vehicle, Scott instead sped away, according to the news release.

The suspect’s vehicle collided with an unoccupied vehicle on Queen Valley Road, and the suspect fled on foot through a neighborhood.

As the deputy came over a fence, he was struck and unable to continue the foot pursuit, investigators said.

Scott turned himself in at the Victorville sheriff’s station on Tuesday.

Scott was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury and evading police. He remains in custody at the Adelanto Detention Center, according to jail records. Bail is set at $125,000.
