Victim in Perris hit-run crash identified as Moreno Valley woman
The victim killed in a hit-and-run crash near Patriot Park in Perris has been identified as a 47-year-old Moreno Valley woman, coroner’s officials said.
Maricela Martinez was struck about 8 p.m. Monday while walking near Patriot Park along Murrieta Road in Perris, Riverside County sheriff’s officials have said. She was pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m. at Riverside University Health Systems Medical Center, according to a Riverside County Sheriff/Coroner’s report
Sheriff’s officials have said that a good Samaritan who witnessed a Chevrolet pickup strike Martinez followed the vehicle, giving the deputies the truck’s location.
Sheriff’s officials have arrested Ismael Rivas, 50, who remained jailed Wednesday at the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center in French Valley on suspicion of murder, felony hit-and-run and driving under the influence, according to booking logs.
Rivas has previous DUI convictions, court records show.
