Valley View rallies for three fourth-quarter touchdowns to beat North

RIVERSIDE — Valley View scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter on Friday night to complete a 33-26 come-from-behind victory over North in an Inland Valley League game.

Justin Keeling scored two of his four touchdowns in that final quarter, and rushed 21 times for 191 yards.

“We needed this win tonight,” Keeling said. “We stuck to our core values and played together as a team.”

Trailing 19-14 with a little over nine minutes to play in the fourth, Valley View took its first lead of the game with a touchdown by Rudy Lovato.

Keeling then sealed the contest with a pair of touchdowns runs.

“We overcame a lot of things that went wrong tonight, and it was a testament to them wanting to be successful,” Valley View coach Daniel Barlage said. “We made some mistakes and almost let it get away from us.”

North couldn’t have hoped to get off to a better start when Dereck Bruton recovered a fumble on the game’s opening kickoff. The Huskies wasted no time capitalizing on the turnover, scoring with a five-play drive that was capped with a seven yard run from Tyzjon Calhoun-Fuller.

Valley View answered back minutes later with its first real possession of the game when Keeling found the end zone from 18 yards out on his first carry of the game.

After a field goal late in the opening frame, the Huskies continued to add to their lead midway through the second quarter when Calhoun-Fuller found the end zone again, this time after a 13-yard pass from Nick Satcher.

Valley View managed to cut the deficit to only two points at the half when Keeling scored his second touchdown to set up the dramatic second half.
