More details emerged Monday, Jan. 8, about a single-car rollover crash that killed two people on the southbound 215 Freeway south of Baxter Road in Murrieta on Saturday night.
The driver, 21-year-old Genevieve Hines of Menifee, made an unsafe turning movement to the right, causing the vehicle to leave the west edge of the road and strike a dirt embankment, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.
The vehicle rolled several times, and ended up blocking two lanes of freeway traffic.
Passenger Cade Deardorff, 20, of Murrieta, was not using safety equipment and was ejected from the vehicle, according to the report. He and Hines were pronounced dead at the scene.
A third passenger, a 20-year-old woman not identified by name, suffered moderate injuries and was hospitalized at Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar.
