Update: UCLA slogged through three sleepy halves at Pauley Pavilion last week after returning from its season-opening trip to China, but finally woke up in the second half against South Carolina State to bury the Bulldogs 96-68. The Bruins scored 14 unanswered points during five minutes in the second half to blow the game open. … SC State and Central Arkansas shot a combined 28-for-62 (45.2 percent) from 3-point range last week in Pauley Pavilion. … UCLA is shooting only 59.7 percent from the free-throw line after going 12 for 24 against SC State. Redshirt sophomore Prince Ali missed all four of his attempts from the stripe. … Creighton knocked off No. 20 Northwestern on Nov. 15 to enter this week’s Hall of Fame Classic with an unblemished record. Freshman Khyri Thomas had 24 points and 11 rebounds in the win. … Senior center Thomas Welsh moved into sole possession of third-place on UCLA’s all-time blocks list with two against SC State and 120 for his career. … UCLA will face either Baylor or Wisconsin on Tuesday in the second round of the four-team event.
