A driver lost control of a car striking a 10-year-old boy before crashing into a La Cadena Drive home in Colton on Tuesday, June 13.

Both the driver and child were taken to the hospital. Firefighters on scene said the child was suffering from what appeared to be multiple bone fractures. Neighbors said the child was playing in the front yard with other children when he was struck.

Colton police say shortly before 6:30 p.m. the driver appears to have lost control while driving south in the 1100 block of La Cadena, causing major structural damage to the home.

According to a police news release, speed is believed to be a factor, but “other causes are also being investigated” by the department’s MAIT team.

Another home suffered minor damage after the car took out a column holding up the roofline above the porch area. Firefighters assigned to the call shored up the roof temporarily.

However the city may red tag the home the car entered. City crews are on scene to determine if the home is habitable.

“He was moving when he lost control,” resident Alfred Marquez said. “He didn’t even look like he was going to stop.”
