Travis Dye, Norco football clinch second in Big VIII League

NORCO — It was the kind of four-quarter performance for which Norco had been searching.
Travis Dye contributed seven total touchdowns as Norco ran away in the second half to defeat Eastvale Roosevelt, 83-42, on Friday night to clinch second place in the Big VIII League.
“The points show it all,” Dye said. “If we come out guns blazing in both halves we’re a very dangerous team.”
Dye ran for a career high 336 yards and six touchdowns for Norco (6-4 overall, 3-2 Big VIII), which bounced back from a loss to Centennial in Week 9 and now head into the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 playoffs with the potential to host a first-round game.
“We just tried to be balanced and if they’re going to give us the run we’re going to take the run,” Norco head coach Chuck Chastain said. “Whatever they give us we’re going to take and try to expoit.”
Dye ran for scores of 73, 7, 52, 1, 42 and 30 and also had a 12-yard touchdown reception as the Cougars gained 883 yards of offense in the win.
Nick Lasher completed 20 of 23 passes for 341 yards and three touchdowns, and Jorge Alvarado had seven receptions for 186 yards and two touchdowns.
“We just had mindset that we had to play all four quarters and not give up,” Lasher said. “We just gave it to them all day on offense.”
