Transient arrested after fires set along 91 Freeway in Riverside

A man described as homeless was arrested Wednesday, Jan. 31, after a series of small fires were set along the 91 Freeway in Riverside, authorities said.
The man set eight to 10 fires, said California Highway Patrol Officer Dan Olivas. After CHP and Riverside police officers arrested him about 1 p.m., he kicked out a window in a Riverside patrol car, Olivas said.
The man was arrested on suspicion of arson and damaging public property.
Witnesses told the California Highway Patrol that a transient was pushing a stroller that was on fire up the La Sierra Avenue onramp to the westbound 91. The CHP was not able to immediately confirm that information or the man’s name.
Firefighters waited for the man to be detained before putting out the fires.
