This week’s best deals: Vegas balloon ride, L.A. dining discounts
By Paul Hodgins
Until Jan. 23, Shell is offering a worthwhile discount on gas. If you join its Fuel Rewards Program, you’ll save up to $10 off your next two fill-ups at a participating Shell station. As soon as you join in the Fuel Rewards program, you’ll get instant Gold Status and immediately save 5 cents per gallon on every fill-up at any participating Shell station as long as you maintain active Gold Status. Stack your rewards to save more at the pump. Link your credit card and you’ll earn cents-per-gallon discounts on fuel (known as Fuel Rewards savings) by shopping, dining, or making other day-to-day purchases at any merchant or restaurant participating in the Fuel Rewards Program. Go to www.fuelrewards.com for details.

Del Taco undersells everybody
Del Taco continues to make its mark in the super-value end of the fast food universe. Its newly expanded Buck & Under Menu, unveiled at the end of December, now includes 15 breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night items for $1 and under, although it warns that “price and participation may vary.” If you join the company’s Raving Fan Club, you’ll be eligible for free food deals. Currently offered on the website are two free grilled chicken tacos and a free regular-size premium shake on your birthday.
What happens over Vegas …
Fly over Las Vegas in a colorful hot-air balloon on a 3.5-hour tour. Viator, the travel discount website (www.viator.com), is offering tempting deals on the trip. In January, most sunrise departures from Monday through Thursday are $75 off at $199. Spend an hour flying over Red Rock Canyon and the surrounding neighborhoods, and see views of the Las Vegas Strip. Upon landing, enjoy an intimate picnic with light appetizers and a Champagne toast.
