The Riverside County agency that enforces hazardous waste rules wins statewide award
Riverside County’s Hazardous Materials Branch has received a statewide honor for its work protecting the public from hazardous waste.
The branch, part of the county’s environmental health department, received an Outstanding CUPA Agency Award for 2018 at the CUPA industry group’s annual meeting this week.
CUPA stands for Certified Unified Program Agency. Eighty-three such agencies exist to provide consistent statewide enforcement of hazardous materials permits and regulations.
The award recognizes the county branch’s work to encourage business to comply with hazardous-waste rules by filing plans online. The branch’s training program also was a factor in the award.
