Lottery officials gathered in Menifee on Monday to present a big check … but not the big check.

Lottery Director Hugo Lopez presented the owners of Marietta Liquor with a symbolic check for the $1 million reward they will receive for selling the winning Powerball ticket in Saturday’s drawing. Officials say it was the one of the biggest Powerball wins ever.

Yet the wait for the person with the $447 million ticket continues.

Dozens of regular customers, well-wishers and neighboring business employees mingled with media reporters and photographers at store in the Sun City section of Menifee.

Matthew Alberre, son of the store’s owner and the manager of the family-run business, called the experience “life-changing.”
