A suspect in a Norco business robbery swerved his vehicle at, but did not hit, an employee trying to stop his get away before he was subsequently caught by a sheriff’s helicopter in nearby Chino on Monday, according to a sheriff’s news release.
Deputies responded to a theft report at an unnamed Norco business in the 1400 block of Hamner Avenue at 1:09 p.m.
Deputies broadcast the suspect and vehicle description and the sheriff’s helicopter spotted the vehicle near Hellman Avenue and Schleisman Road in Eastvale and followed it to a stop near Grove and Merrill avenues in Chino.
The suspects ran away from their vehicle and were caught.
John Knopp, 20, of Eastvale, and Robert Filkins, 20, of Ontario, were arrested — Knopp on suspicion of robbery, and Filkins for a separate outstanding warrant. Authorities noted Knopp was not involved in the robbery.
Filkins and Knopp remained in custody at Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside. Filkins’ bail is set at $10,000 and Knopp’s at $30,000.
Evidence related to the robbery was recovered from the suspect vehicle.
