Sheriff’s helicopter plucks missing hikers from Mount Baldy area

A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s helicopter located two lost hikers Monday, July 24, within 30 minutes of initiating a search in the Icehouse Canyon area of the San Gabriel Mountains, according to a sheriff’s news release.
The hikers, Charlotte Goor and Robert Schmidt, set out at 2 a.m. Sunday, July 23, on a day hike of a circuit of peaks, starting at the Mount Baldy Lodge. On the ninth peak, they because disoriented, and realized they were lost and had run out of water.
On Monday, a friend called authorities to report them missing.The helicopter found them on a steep, rocky hillside near the Icehouse Saddle.
They were hoisted to the helicopter and brought to Cow Canyon to deputies and rescue personnel.
