San Bernardino County County Counsel Jean-Rene Basle has announced his plans to retire after serving the county for 28 years.

Basle, who turns 59 in December, was named County Counsel in October 2010, replacing Ruth Stringer, who held the post for four years.

Basle’s appointment came the same year as county CEO Greg Devereaux, who spearheaded the Countywide Vision and set about charting a new course for the county by establishing policies and practices emphasizing more government and fiscal accountability and transparency following years of public corruption scandals dating back more than a decade.
