Riverside Public Utilities warns customers of fraudulent calls

Riverside Public Utilities is urging its customers to beware of calls from scammers falsely claiming to be from the city-owned utility.

In a news release Friday, Jan. 12, the utility advised customers to avoid contact from callers who claim to be calling on a city phone number, claim they are calling about a faulty meter and demand payment.

The utility contacts customers only through paper billing statements, online billing emails, late payment reminders and green 48-hour notification tags placed at the customer’s address.

Customers who have questions about suspicious calls can contact the utility at 311 (from a landline) or 951-826-5311. Customers can also file a report with the Riverside Police Department at 951-354-2007.
