A man was killed Thursday night when he lost control of his vehicle, struck the center divider then smashed into a retaining wall, Riverside Police said.

Witnesses called 911 around 10:30 p.m. to report the crash as Arlington Avenue and Sunset Ranch Drive but when paramedics arrived the unidentified 34-year-old Riverside man was already dead, according to a police news release.

Police investigators determined the man was driving his 2017 Buick Regal north on Arlington Avenue at a high rate of speed when he lost control, struck the median sending the vehicle across the roadway and into a wall and light pole, officials said.

The police Major Accident Investigation Team is currently investigating.

Police ask anyone with information on the crash to call Riverside Police Traffic Detective Greg Matthews at 951-826-8724
