Riverside hotel robbery suspect spotted, arrested by officers

RIVERSIDE — A 32-year-old probationer who allegedly attempted to rob a hotel in downtown Riverside was arrested, police said Saturday.

The robbery occurred at 10:30 p.m. Friday at the Marriott Hotel at 3400 Market St., according to Riverside police.

“A suspect walked up to the front desk and produced a threatening note demanding money while holding his hand inside his sweatshirt pocket to insinuate a weapon,” police said.

The suspect fled on foot without receiving any money from the hotel clerk, but was spotted by officers near the Fox Theater shortly afterward and arrested.

The suspect was identified by the hotel clerk and through surveillance video, police said.

Evan Spriggs of Riverside was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of attempted second-degree robbery and violation of probation.
