Riverside firefighters respond to small blaze in La Sierra area
By Alex Groves
Riverside firefighters on Saturday, June 17, were working to extinguish a 1-acre fire near train tracks in the La Sierra area of the city, a fire official said.
The fire, reported shortly after 2 p.m., was burning near the La Sierra Metrolink station on Indiana Avenue, said Riverside Fire Chief Thomas Jay.
Jay said a pile of railroad ties — which were not actually on any tracks — were burning in the blaze. He said resources were expected to remain on scene for about an hour more.
It was not immediately known whether the blaze would affect train traffic in the area.
