IRVINE — Two men were arrested Wednesday night after police say they took guns and barricaded themselves in an empty Irvine church for hours, according to broadcast reports.

The standoff began at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, at the Harvest Orange County Church at 17600 Gillette Ave. and ended peacefully 2 1/2 hours later, according to a report by CBS Los Angeles.

TV footage shows the men, who were nude, being escorted from the church, which had been surrounded by snipers and SWAT team members.

The church is helmed by Riverside-based Pastor Greg Laurie, who is known for the Harvest rallies each year at Angel Stadium.

The nondenominational church, which Laurie began in Riverside 44 years ago, has seven locations, including Corona and Hawaii. Laurie is also an author and radio host.
