Report of distraught man shutters street in Fontana
A report of a distraught family member threatening to harm himself and others led to an hours-long watch and street shutdown in Fontana’s Coyote Canyon neighborhood Monday by police, who entered the home to discover the man had apparently fled before they arrived.
The disturbance report from the the 5000 block of Cottontail Way was received just before 9:30 a.m. Monday, Fontana Police spokesman Sgt. Kevin Goltara said Tuesday.
Family members said the unidentified man was having mental health and drug issues, had threatened to kill others and himself, then went to an upstairs bedroom at the home. He was reported to have some type of weapon, Goltara said.
Police responded and sealed off the immediate area. When officers entered the home at 4 p.m., the man was not there, and the operation ended.
