Rancho Verde football coach Jeff Steinberg said he watched the live stream of Cajon’s CIF Southern Section championship game Saturday night against Downey as a fan.

Steinberg now will have to break down the footage as a coach.

The CIF State’s bowl selection committee has pitted Rancho Verde and Cajon in the Division II-AA regional championship Friday night at Rancho Verde. The winner will advance to the state title game in Sacramento on Dec. 15.

“It’s going to be a great atmosphere for fans of Inland Empire football,” Steinberg said. “You have two great teams playing at their absolute best.”

Cajon coach Nick Rogers said the matchup has pros and cons.

“The schools are fairly close, so both teams will have plenty of support,” Rogers said. “The Inland Empire will be guaranteed at least one finalist, but it also means an Inland team has to lose. It should be a great game.”

Rancho Verde and Cajon feature two of the area’s most explosive offenses. Rancho Verde (12-2) rolled up 700 yards in its 44-42 win over La Canada St. Francis in the CIF Southern Section’s Division 3 championship game. Cajon (13-1) had 636 yards in winning the CIF-SS Division 4 title 54-26.
