A large crime scene was set up in the parking lot of the shopping area in the 10600 E Foothill Boulevard.
Sheriff’s officials said the sergeant was in the area for a welfare check, or to check on the wellbeing of a person, when the attack took place. It wasn’t clear of the subject of the check was the person who stabbed the sheriff’s official.
