MURRIETA — Rancho Christian scored seven first half touchdowns on Friday night on its way to a 56-20 South Valley League victory over Calvary Murrieta.
Jaden Schieberl scored three of those touchdowns, collecting 167 rushing yards on only four attempts, while teammate Hunter Rapolla
scored both offensively and defensively with a fumble recovery and a 20-yard touchdown reception.
“We saw all of our hard work at practice pay off tonight,” Rapolla said. “It felt great to get that defensive touchdown because I’ve
missed so many opportunities to get one, and I was finally able to make up for it.”
Calvary Murrieta (4-4, 2-1) took the early lead on its opening drive when Brandon Baker connected with Trevor Perea for a 57-yard touchdown pass on a third and long attempt, but the advantage would be short lived. Rancho Christian (5-3, 3-0) responded on the ensuing possession with an 80-yard scoring drive.
It turned out to be the spark that Rancho Christian needed, as the Eagles followed up the score with 49 straight points in the half. The barrage of points included defensive touchdowns from Ryan Esposito and Rapolla, while Schieberl ran for scored of 70 and 90 yards.
Perea scored a pair of rushing touchdown for the Warriors in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Rancho Christian quarterback Carter Treadway was 8 of 10 passing for 107 yards, while his counterpart Brandon Baker was 3 for 11 for 62 yards. Tyler Treadway led Eagles receivers with two catches for 43 yards, while Evan Matlock rushed four times for 48 yards.
Dustin Perea led Calvary Murrieta in rushing with 135 yards on 13 carries.
