Rancho Christian and Centennial boys basketball showdown finally happening
The Rancho Christian and Centennial boys basketball teams managed to avoid playing one another this season despite both schools participating in the same three tournaments.
The much-awaited meeting will finally happen Monday night, as the two Inland powerhouse programs are scheduled to play in the 7 p.m. featured game of the Adidas HoopFest at Orange Lutheran.
There will be seven games played at the event, and tickets are $15 for all ages.
Rancho Christian was ranked No. 8 in the recent CalHiSports.com state rankings. The Eagles already have wins against state-ranked squads like Etiwanda, Chino Hills, El Cajon Foothills Christian and Oak Park.
Centennial started the season on a positive note, but the Huskies went 3-5 in two holiday tournaments.
Rancho Christian will have another tough test at its Eagle Showcase event on Saturday. The event will have six games: San Bernardino vs. Chaparral (noon), Carnegie vs. Vista Murrieta (1:30 p.m.), Etiwanda vs. Twentynine Palms (3 p.m.), Temecula Valley vs. San Juan Capistrano Saddleback Valley Christian (4:30 p.m.); Rancho Christian vs. Chula Vista Mater Dei (6 p.m.) and Roosevelt vs. Great Oak (7:30 p.m.).
GRAND TERRACE SHOWCASE EVENT
The North and Kaiser boys basketball teams will play in the 5:30 p.m. featured game at Grand Terrace’s MLK Beat Cancer Extravaganza on Monday.
The event kicks off at 10 a.m., with Corona taking on Carter. That game will be followed by Tahquitz vs. Reseda Cleveland (11:30 a.m.), Perris vs. Bloomington (1 p.m.), Grand Terrace vs. Canyon Springs (2:30 p.m.) and Summit vs. Pacific (4 p.m.).
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10, with all proceeds from the gate going to help cancer research organizations as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer program. Grand Terrace coach Joe Ray said he organized the event because his father died of cancer five years ago.
