Questions about privacy vs. safety arise as Banning schools consider screening visitors
By Craig Shultz
The Banning school board will consider installing a new check-in system for screening people who visit campuses when it meets Thursday, Aug. 31.
The district is considering using LobbyGuard, a system that provides instant background checks against a list of banned individuals and select criminal databases and notifies personnel of persons flagged.
When the concept was presented at the previous board meeting, there were concerns about privacy and how much of a person’s background would be revealed to school personnel.
The board will get a more thorough presentation about the system at Thursday’s meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. in the City Council chambers, 99 E Ramsey St.
