The CIF-Southern Section’s girls golf postseason tees off this week with two individual regionals.

Most Inland-area competitors, who qualified out of their respective league finals last week, play in the Southern Individual Regional on Tuesday.

Qualifying golfers tee off at Dad Miller Golf Course at 8 a.m. Included in the field will be the top six players from the Southwestern League, the top five from the Big VIII, and at least four from every other girls golf league in the area.

That includes Southwestern League champ and sophomore Jordyn Parr of Temecula Valley, as well as runner-up Aly Bean of Vista Murrieta. King sophomore Chandler Sjoerdsma, the Big VIII champ, and Santiago junior Emily Wang, the league’s runner-up, are also in the field.

The top 36 players from both the Southern and the Northern regionals will advance to the CIF-SS Individual Championship on Nov. 2 at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard.

It’s been a while since the Patriot raised a championship banner for girls volleyball, but the drought ended when the Warriors defeated La Sierra in four sets to clinch the 2017 River Valley League title.

Alexis Bower had 11 kills and 17 digs to lead the victory over La Sierra. Charlize Hughes and Alissa Anguiano registered 20 and 19 digs, respectively, and Torri Hemmings had five blocks for the Warriors.

This marks the program’s first league championship since winning the Sunkist League title in 2010.

I’m extremely proud of the way they have come together and jelled as a team. It’s a great feeling seeing that pay of for them.”

Gonzalez returned 10 players from last year’s squad, including eight seniors. […]
