Portrero Bridge project moving forward in Beaumont
By Craig Shultz
The Beaumont City Council is expected to award a construction contract for the first phase of the Portero Boulevard project when it meets Tuesday, Jan. 2.
The project includes construction of a six-lane bridge to extend Potrero over the 60 Freeway, building a connection ramp on Western Knolls to Potrero north of the freeway and include some freeway widening.
The council is expected to award a $14 million contract to Ortiz Enterprises of Irvine.
Once called “the bridge to nowhere,” the long-delayed project will be paid for in part by landowners who will benefit from the project.
The meeting beings at 6 p.m. at the Civic Center, 550 E. 6th St.
