POMONA — A burglary suspect was arrested Thursday in Pomona after he allegedly tried to sell a purse he stole from a vehicle to undercover investigators through a social media app.

The arrest was made about 10:30 a.m. in the area of Foothill Boulevard and Garey Avenue, said Pomona police Sgt. Iain D. Miller.

Police allege the suspect took a Louis Vuitton purse and wallet from a Covina woman’s vehicle while it was in Pomona. The date of the auto burglary was not immediately disclosed.

The victim had identified her stolen Louis Vuitton purse and wallet on a social media app and contacted police. The suspect, 33-year-old Gabriel Chavez of Pomona, was identified and contacted via the app, Miller said.

The undercover investigators met with Chavez, who was attempting to sell the purse for $1,000, and verified the items.

The suspect was taken into custody and booked at the Pomona Police Department on suspicion of felony possession of stolen property, Miller said.

Chavez’s bail was set at $20,000, according to Miller.
