Pomona police arrest burglary suspects found sleeping in stolen vehicle
POMONA — Two auto burglary suspects found sleeping Tuesday morning in a stolen SUV filled with drugs and stolen goods in Pomona were arrested.
Officers responded at 8:12 a.m. to the 2000 block of Lee Place where someone reported two suspicious men sleeping in a suspicious vehicle, said Pomona police Sgt. V. Terrell.
Officers noticed the men sleeping in the gold 2007 Chevrolet Suburban and that the SUV had no license plates attached. Based on reasonable suspicion the Suburban may have been stolen, the two men inside were detained pending further investigation, Terrell said.
The officers conducted a vehicle identification number check and it was confirmed that the Suburban was a reported stolen vehicle out of Ontario, Terrell said.
Authorities recovered 14 grams of methamphetamine and numerous stolen items such as car stereos, portable GPS devices, hand-operated power tools, confidential personal documents and a stainless steel kitchen sink from the vehicle, Terrell said.
The suspects, identified as 23-year-old Jose Alfredo Garcia and 28- year-old Richard Martinez, both of Pomona, were arrested on suspicion of grand theft auto and being in possession of stolen property, according to Terrell.
Pomona police are in the process of tracking down and notifying victims that their property has been recovered, Terrell said. The victims are believed to be from Pomona, Fontana and Ontario, according to police.
