Police vehicle strikes pedestrian, leading to closure of Van Buren Boulevard in Riverside
A Riverside police unit struck a pedestrian on Van Buren Boulevard near Wood Road on Thursday morning after authorities say the man tried to cross the street in the middle of the block.
“The pedestrian is in serious condition but he was stabilized in the hospital, as I understand,” said Officer Ryan Railsback.

The crash took place around 5:30 a.m. as the officer was driving east on Van Buren Boulevard, said Railsback.
“The pedestrian stepped out in front of him mid-block and the police officer wasn’t able to avoid the collision and struck him,” Railsback said.
The road closure has led to heavy congestion in the surrounding areas.
The Riverside police Major Accident Investigation Team is at the scene.
