  • About 275 people attend a memorial highway dedication at the Palm Spring Visitor's Center on Sunday, Oct. 8, for the one-year anniversary of the shooting that killed Palm Springs police officers Jose “Gil” Vega of Cathedral City and Lesley Zerebny of Hemet. A portion of Highway 111 is being renamed the Police Officer Jose ‘Gil' Vega and Police Officer Lesley Zerebny Memorial Highway. A memorial ceremony honoring Vega and Zerebny took place at the Palm Springs Police Officers' Memorial statue.
