Person walking along 15 Freeway in Cajon Pass struck, killed
A person walking along the southbound lanes of the 15 Freeway near Highway 138 in the Cajon Pass was fatally struck by a vehicle early Tuesday morning, according to California Highway Patrol reports.
Shortly after 1 a.m., CHP dispatchers received reports of the fatal crash, but it wasn’t clear why the unidentified pedestrian was walking along the freeway when the person was struck by a Toyota Prius, officials said. The driver remained at the scene.
Authorities shut down two lanes of the freeway, leading officials to issue a SigAlert for the area for at least two hours, CHP incident logs indicate. All lanes were reopened around 3:30 a.m.
Several hours later, around 5 a.m., what appears to be an unrelated crash on the southbound 15 near Oak Hill Road caused a traffic backup that stretched for about 4 miles to Highway 395 in Hesperia, traffic maps and CHP information show. No major injuries were reported on that crash.
