Lady Alexander, an operations supervisor at Lowe’s Regional Distribution Center in Perris has received an Excellence in Employment Award as Advocate of the Year from the California Disability Services Association for her dedication to helping persons with developmental disabilities succeed in their jobs.
EXCEED, an organization that provides employment supports to people with disabilities, nominated Alexander for the award. EXCEED has served employees at the distribution center for 16 years and now has 25 clients working there, thanks to the special support and attention the clients receive from Alexander, the group said in a news release.
“I believe employees with developmental disabilities are just as capable of performing their duties as other employees,” Lady Alexander said the release. “They are reliable and seem to be more safety-minded and less likely to cause work-related incidents. Hiring employees with disabilities increases diversity in a work place and can teach other employees how creative they are and how to solve issues or how they can be successful at different tasks.”
