Perris athlete hopes to compete in international competition. Here’s how you can help send him to Australia
Perris Citrus Hill High School senior Dubois Samuel has been selected to compete at the Down Under Sports Tournament in Australia. Dubois will represent California on the Track and Field Team this summer. However, in order to attend this amazing opportunity, he needs to raise enough funds to cover his trip.
Once the money is raised, Dubois will fly out to Queensland, Australia on July 8 for a 10-day excursion that will culminate in a two-day competition with athletes from all over the world.

Dubois currently plays football and does shotput in track and field. Last year he competed in the League Finals and came in second place after he threw 43 feet and 10 inches.
In November, he received a letter at school inviting him to compete at the Down Under Sports Tournament.
According to Job Cyril, Area Program Director for Down Under Sports, the program’s selection of athletes is similar to college recruiting; the athlete’s records are assessed and a formal invitation is sent to the school. Currently, there are around 1,200 American athletes invited to the tournament with around 40 coming from California.
“I was shocked and happy,” Dubois said upon learning of the invitation. “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, it’ll be my first time out of the country and I will get to see and experience new things.”
Maya Samuel, Dubois’ mother, was excited yet overwhelmed at the opportunity.
“I’m a single mom with three kids and you want your child to experience something new and great,” she said.
