A 79-year-old pedestrian died Thursday, Oct. 26, about five hours after the victim was struck while crossing Brockton Avenue at Bandini Avenue in Riverside, according to police and coroner reports.

The pedestrian was crossing in a marked crosswalk when a pickup truck struck the victim at the intersection at about 8:40 a.m., Riverside police spokesman Ryan Railsback wrote in an email.

The cause of the collision is under investigation and “this seems to be a tragic accident at this point,” he wrote. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be involved.

The victim was pronounced dead at 1:31 p.m. at Riverside Community Hospital, according to a Riverside County Sheriff/Coroner’s press release. The victim was not identified by name or sex pending notification of next of kin.
