A Riverside County Sheriff’s patrol unit was involved in a collision with a pedestrian in Perris and the pedestrian later died, a sheriff’s spokesman confirmed Thursday night.
Other than confirming the collision occurred, “We’re not going to be providing a statement about the incident,” said sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Mike Vasquez.
The California Highway Patrol will handle the investigation.
The collision was reported at 8:42 p.m. Thursday at North Perris Boulevard and West Nuevo Road, in a commercial area near Perris High School in the city, according to a Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department news release.
Initially the pedestrian was described as suffering from serious injuries and was transported by ambulance.
Details about how the collision occurred were not immediately available. North and southbound Perris Boulevard lanes were expected to be closed to traffic for several hours, according to the CHP traffic incident log.
