MORENO VALLEY >> An elderly man was struck and killed by a pickup truck in Moreno Valley at 5:22 p.m. Saturday, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department officials say.

Just a minute earlier, at 5:21 p.m., an adult female was critically injured in another vehicle versus pedestrian accident, said Mike Vasquez, a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department spokesman.

The driver of the pickup in the fatality was being held on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Vasquez said.

That fatal accident occurred near the intersection of Alessandro Boulevard and Ramsdell Drive, he said.

The critically injured female pedestrian was struck near the intersection of Perris Boulevard and Dracea Avenue in Moreno Valley, Vasquez said.

There were no drugs or alcohol involved in that accident, he said.

Investigations for both accidents are continuing.
