Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield absent again at Rose Bowl media session

The drama is starting to build around Oklahoma’s Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Baker Mayfield, who skipped Friday’s press conference at the LA Hotel amid reports that he’s under the weather.
Mayfield was scheduled to be among five offensive players at Friday’s presser, but his absence was obviously noticeable.
Apparently Mayfied is battling cold and flu-like symptoms and it’s noticeable in his voice, according to those at afternoon practice sessions at the StubHub Center in Carson, which is where the Sooners are preparing for Monday’s Rose Bowl Game against Georgia, which is part of the College Football Semifinal.
Mayfield skipped a Disneyland visit on Wednesday and was not with team at Lowry’s Beef Bowl on Thursday.
But he has continued to practice since arriving in Los Angeles, so the hope is that he’ll be fine come New Years Day.
Oklahoma offensive coordinator Cale Gundy wouldn’t comment on Mayfied’s condition or how he has looked at practice, saying that is a question for coach Lincoln Riley, who was not scheduled to speak with reporters on Friday morning.
“Obviously you saw him out there,” Gundy said of Wednesday and Thursday practices. “So, we’ll just leave it at that.”
Flu season has been intense this winter in Los Angeles County, prompting a spike in emergency room visits.
