Using the OfferUp mobile marketplace to sell a cell phone turned a seller into a victim as one of the “buyers” in Menifee pulled a handgun and robbed the potential seller of the phone, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s news release.
Sheriff’s deputies served a search warrant at about 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, in connection with the armed robbery investigation in the 10000 block of Breezy Meadow in Moreno Valley, according to the news release.
The robbery was reported at 10 p.m. Sept. 26 at Palomar and Holland roads in Menifee.
Investigators located the stolen phone in a suspect’s bedroom along with a small-caliber handgun. Additional phones and property also were collected from the home.
Ashley Kelly, 24, of Moreno Valley, and Amy Chavez, 20, of Moreno Valley were arrested on suspicion of armed robbery, conspiracy and possession of stolen property.
Chavez remains in custody at the Robert Presley Detention Center and Kelly remains in custody at the Larry Smith Correctional Facility near Banning. Bail for each is set at $30,000, according to jail records.
