Motorcyclist’s leg severed in hit-and-run on 15 Freeway in Lake Elsinore
By Alex Groves
A man’s leg was severed late Tuesday on the 15 Freeway in Lake Elsinore after his motorcycle became disabled and he tried to run across the lanes but was struck by a vehicle, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.
The motorcyclist was still alive and undergoing treatment at Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar on Wednesday morning, CHP Officer Dan Olivas said.
The driver who hit him fled the scene.
The motorcyclist’s leg, after an extensive search, was never found either, according to Olivas.
Just after 11 p.m., the motorcyclist had pulled over to call AAA on the right shoulder of the northbound 15, north of Central Avenue, Olivas wrote in an email.
He then started running across the freeway, but was hit by an unknown vehicle, Olivas said.
Vehicle parts were found and collected for evidence, Olivas said.
The CHP hadn’t located any witnesses, he said. Anyone with information about the crash may call the Riverside CHP office at 951-637-8000.
