Moreno Valley students arrested, suspected of falsely reporting active-shooter incident

Some Vista Verde Middle School students were arrested Tuesday, Oct. 24, on suspicion of falsely reporting an active-shooter incident at their Val Verde Unified school a day earlier, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s news release.
The students were later released to the custody of their parents, and charges will be filed for review by the county’s juvenile probation unit. The sheriff’s release did not say how many students were arrested.
Deputies received information Tuesday about the possible identity of the suspects in the 3:34 p.m. Moreno Valley incident and interviewed them.
After receiving the trouble report on Monday, deputies began a systematic search of the school grounds and the school staff initiated a lockdown that affected students and staff in an after school program.
The lockdown lasted less than an hour, according to the school district. Krameria Avenue, the street in front of the school, was closed as a precaution during the search.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Moreno Valley station’s school resource unit at 951-486-6700.
